When was the last time you did something spontaneous?
I’m new to southern New Jersey and all the roads look the same to me. I’ve gotten lost a few times, not for long, but I’ve made a wrong turn or two. Some of them turned out to be righter than I expected. And I’ve found some marvelous little places to explore.
I’m usually a homebody. I’m perfectly happy sitting around with a good book and a glass of wine. When I do venture out I usually have a plan and a navigation system. But at times it’s fun to give in to whimsy, to not overthink it, and have a sense of ease about the day. I’m trying to not make too many to-do lists.
It’s good practice because life doesn’t always work out the way you plan. At times there is no choice but to go with the flow.
Long Hot Summer
There are many farm markets in my area and I love looking at all the locally grown produce. Sometimes, I try a vegetable on a whim. My most recent adventure in vegetation was Long Hots. I bought a handful at the market and I’ve seen them on local restaurant menus. They are long, unpredictably hot peppers. Some are seriously hot and some are not. It’s always an adventure biting into a Long Hot.
But besides food, there are all number of places I could get momentarily lost in south Jersey. Who knows where these paths will lead? To a new park? A new restaurant? A museum? There are plenty of antique and used books stores in this area. I love these places.
Have you ever pulled over to the side of the road because a small store looked interesting?
Going With the Flow
There’s always risk involved with adventure. But a little flight of fancy now and then can be a good thing. It gets rid of the doldrums. Add a little mystery to your life and a childlike sense of adventure. Say yes to yourself and to your cravings.
I tell myself that I don’t have to pre-plan everything. I am open to new experiences.
What’s the most memorably spontaneous thing you’ve done?
Thanks for sharing . life is for living and everyday is an adventure. Cheers to the weekend. Live, love, laugh
I like your attitude! Cheers.
Not sure why this popped into my head but years ago my sister and I did a Contiki tour and we had to fly to England to meet everyone. Any who my sister and I discovered this amazing restaurant in Piccadilly Circus (I think that is where we were) called The Wren Cafe. It was in an old church and the best food I’ve ever had. I looked it up years ago and it’s gone but it apparently was a well known and we just stumbled upon it by accident and loved the experience.
What a great story. I’m glad you got to experience it before it disappeared.
Donna,
Hello again trying to add a photo to my profile and just want to see if this works.
