Set the Mood with Classic Christmas Decorations
Decorations are a great way to set the mood for any celebration. When it comes to Christmas, decorations have the power to make us feel festive, warm, and nostalgic. If you’re looking to add a classic feel to your Christmas decorations this year, try decorating your home’s exterior with pinecones and evergreen branches. They have a classic elegance and they smell wonderful. They’re perfect to bring a little touch of Christmas magic to your home.
Inside, I love to use candles to create a cozy and warm atmosphere during the holidays. I choose scents which remind me of the season: evergreens, berries, balsam, citrus, and cinnamon. I also swap out my everyday kitchen towels and oven mitts with Christmas-themed ones.
If you want to create memories while getting the most for your money, consider making some decorations yourself. Decorating your home with homemade decorations is a great way to add a personal touch to the season. Making Christmas decorations also gives you the opportunity to spend some quality time with your family and friends. I cherish my handmade decorations and get a special feeling of nostalgia when I include them each season.
Create a Christmas Tree that Shines
If you’re decorating with a Christmas tree this year, try making it as beautiful as possible. I use loads of ornaments that I’ve collected over the years. We have delicate glass balls, satin-covered balls, handmade stained glass that I remember making as a child, shiny gold musical instruments, clip-on birds made of colored feathers, wooden scenes that we made as crafts when we were young, plenty of crystal decorations to reflect the lights, and beads as a finishing touch. As a topper we usually alternate between a star, an angel, and a big bow.
Prepare an Elegant Feast
This year we decided to have a quiet Christmas Eve at home instead of traveling around. We’re making a late dinner and having an elegant bottle of French wine while enjoying holiday music. For Christmas Day we’re making a complete turkey dinner. It’s basically a repeat of Thanksgiving with slight variations in our dessert selections.
To create an elegant dining experience, set a festive table. It’s time to pull out the good dishes! I love to include my mother’s china and crystal. It’s a way to have her spirit with us while we celebrate. You can decorate your table with festive tablecloths, table runners, and fancy napkins. You can also add flowers or candles to your table for additional decoration.
Make a Christmas Cocktail to Celebrate
Christmas is a celebration, and what better way to celebrate than with an elegant cocktail. If it’s snowy and cold outside, try serving hot cocktails, like hot buttered rum, hot spiced cider, or Vin Brule. For chilled cocktails you can’t go wrong with Prosecco, Cava, or Champagne. Or try a festive punch or mimosas. Rim the glasses with colored sugar or add a candy cane, berries, or a cinnamon stick to spruce up their look.
Plan Ahead for the Holidays
The holiday season is a time for joy, celebration and family gatherings, but it can also be a time of anxiety and stress. With all the shopping, parties, and social obligations, it can be hard to find the time to relax and enjoy the holidays. But with the right planning and attitude, you can make sure to have an elegant, stress-free holiday season.
There is a lot to do in a short amount of time, so you want to make sure you have everything ready to go so you don’t feel rushed or behind. This means making a list of everything you have to do, the dates and times they are due, setting a realistic budget, and including all of the fun things you want to do during the holidays.
One of the most important things to do while planning ahead is to make sure you have time to rest and relax, especially if you have a lot of social obligations. Make sure to have time to see family and friends, but also make time for yourself to rest and recharge. If you are feeling overwhelmed or too busy, you may want to consider cutting back on your social commitments.
Schedule Time for Self-Care
As you will be spending a lot of time with loved ones, you also want to make sure that you are taking time to care for yourself. Be sure to carve out time for getting enough sleep, eating nutritious meals, and doing activities that you find enjoyable and relaxing, such as taking a bath, meditating, watching holiday films, or reading a book.
If you are feeling stressed, or if others around you are, it can also be helpful to use a self-care technique such as deep breathing, or visualization. You can also make sure to have some quiet time to yourself, free from distractions such as your phone, computer, and TV.
Learn To Say No
You may find that others have a lot of expectations of what you should do during the holidays. Saying no is an important part of enjoying an elegant Christmas. It can feel selfish, and even rude, to say no to someone, especially those you love. But sometimes, it’s necessary. You may find that you are overcommitted, or that you have too many obligations that will leave you feeling stressed out and overworked. Or, you may be asked to do something that is not a good fit for you. This is when it’s necessary to learn to say no.
To say no effectively, it’s important to be honest and clear about your boundaries and needs. You do not have to give an explanation, but you do have to speak up for yourself. This can include setting boundaries with people such as having a set amount of time that you are able to give, or delegating tasks to others so that you don’t have to do everything yourself.
