I love fall. I love everything about it: the crispness in the air, the lower humidity, a new season of vegetables and fruits, and fall fashion. I love sweaters and jackets and scarves and cozy chic clothes. I like to keep up with the fashion trends for fall and adapt them to my own sense of style.
As a woman of a certain age I don’t feel comfortable in anything too flashy or youthful. I’ve chosen three fall styles that I think will work on any body type and any age. Trends may come and go, but style is timeless.
If you’re looking to spruce up your wardrobe this season, here is what I see as three key pieces that will be fun to wear, and can be dressed up or down depending on your mood and the occasion.
Denim Maxi Skirt
This is a great alternative to pants. You’ll look that much more chic than when wearing a pair of jeans. You can dress this up with heeled boots, a belt, a cute top and a leather bag, or dress it down with cute sneakers and a tee.
Frayed Bottom Jeans
I’m fairly short at 5′ 4″ and sometimes I have a hard time finding jeans in the right length. When I try cropped jeans, they are too long and look like I’m wearing floods. When I buy full-length jeans they drag on the ground. Frayed bottom jeans are a perfect solution. You can even make these yourself by updating a pair of your old jeans. Simply cut off the bottoms and they will fray naturally when you wash them. Even though they are unraveling, they look like expensive designer jeans because of the radical update.
Luxurious fabrics in rich colors are so chic for fall. Pair a burgundy velvet top with your denim maxi or frayed jeans. Or choose your favorite color. Dark green or blue work well too. I think the dark dramatic colors work best for this fabric. It looks expensive and makes a great background for jewelry. If you don’t like full-on velvet, try a velvet trim.
Here are some options I’ve found around the web.
