If I had more money I could…
If only I were thinner then I could…
If I were prettier I could…
If I had a better job I could…
If I were funnier, smarter, sexier, more appealing…
We have so many excuses for why we can’t do something now.
Sure, more money or a better job could allow you to buy more things, drive a fancier car, but would it really make you happier. Would you feel more secure?
Can’t you find other ways to feel those same things?
Sure, being thinner you could wear those leather pants you always wanted. How would that make you feel? More desirable? Couldn’t a new attitude make you feel the same way?
You could get Botox to avoid wrinkles, but would that make you younger and prettier? Or would you lose your ability to smile? A smile makes everyone look prettier. I bet you feel pretty when you smile. Try it now. Smile. Wow. I can feel your smile from here.
How about this “If” statement:
If I accepted myself as I am, I could move forward into new territory and fulfill my dreams.
Stop looking over the rainbow at when your life will be better if only you could [fill in the blank].
If.
It’s such a tiny word. But it’s powerful. Use it for good, not evil.
What if you decided to live now?
