When I first started exploring the concept of a La Dolce Vita lifestyle, I was reacting to the fact that everyone around me was talking about their New Year resolutions and all of the bad habits they were going to fix. It struck me as very negative behavior. “I’m not broken,” I told myself. “I don’t need to be fixed.” Instead I decided to make all my choices and actions based on whether they would make my life better, make my life sweet. The sweet life = la dolce vita. That was five years ago, and I still live by this rule. Here are some tips on things to do instead of making resolutions.
Make time for family and friends – Even though we are living in the middle of a pandemic, we can still find ways to communicate with each other. Pick up the phone, arrange a Zoom session, or meet in person and stand six feet apart and wear a mask.
Make your moments special – I write often about adding romantic touches to your life. Sure you can wear a blue paper face mask, but why not get a cloth mask in your favorite color, the color that complements your eyes. Wear a jeweled hair band, or a sweater with sequin details. Put fresh flowers on your table and light a candle. These are your moments, make them memorable.
Eat lots of vegetables every day – The nutrients in vegetables will help you maintain a healthy immune system, give you energy, make you feel good, and help your mind function more efficiently. They can also make you more beautiful by helping to soften your skin and provide vitamins and minerals your body needs.
Treat yourself well – This can take many forms. Start a skin care routine. Make time to journal or read a good book. Say no to something you don’t want to do. Do something just for you instead. Take a nap. Take an online course. Do your own thing.
Practice compassion – Try to see things from other people’s point of view. Be understanding of other’s choices. And above all, be compassionate with yourself. Give yourself a break. Make your choices based on what will make you happy.
Each choice you make can make your life richer, happier, and sweeter.
I hope you enjoy my list of things to do instead of making resolutions. Do you have any you want to add to my list? Let me know in the comments section.
Have a sweet new year.
